Is blogging on the way out?

Is blogging on the way out? – “Bloggers quitting what they call a demanding task with few rewards”

I have to admit that on occasion I have considered giving up writing this blog but it is the note reading “hey, thanks for posting that article” or “I never thought of _____ in that way before” that keeps me plugging away.  That said I do empathize with those people trying to make a living knocking out micro-articles for The Huffington Post or other aggregators.  That is an extremely tough way to make a dollar and an even harder way to keep a roof over your head.  I’m not trying to kill the dream but just realize that there are literally millions of people doing the very same thing, so keep your focus very narrow and specialized or you risk being the static and not the signal.

Best wishes.

  1. Maybe, or maybe not.
Microblogging is in, definitely, but I see more blogs right here abandoned by their owners after just a few posts.
    It’s sad, but not unexpected.

    • I still think that there is a lot to be said for the individual voice. Most rebellions in this world were led by a visionary individual (with the possible exception of what has transpired in the Middle East over the past 90 days) and so the “voice” of a single person should still be heard. Whether it is blogging or microblogging, I still think people need to keep beating their drum.
